Laptop!

As probably all the faithful readers of this weblog knows, we have just bought an Inspiron 5100 laptop and installed mandrake linux on it. There were some initial disappointments with bugs and lack of automatic hardware detection, but most of those are resolved now.

urpmi is a very, very nice program. I've just installed, oh, like all the intepreters and compilers I have on the home machine, plus a few things I hadn't managed to find/pay the download costs for, like ocaml (not to be confused with occam) and the full DrScheme. Wow!

Pandolphia was right, Mandrake rocks! To think I was worried. There were some minor issues resolved by setting the security level to someting more sane. At security level higher and above it has the annoying tendency to revert changes that it doesn't find responsible, such as allowing non-root users to turn the machine off locally.

Today I am going to clean up my home directory and perhaps do some relevant programming work.
